Things we’re learning in pre-school

We’ve been busy! Here are a few of the things we’re learning and talking about at Little Dreamers, Big Believers pre-school. Here’s a note from our pre-school teacher, Ms. Jessica.

Things to ask your child about:

• What is a reptile?
• What does it mean to be cold blooded?
• What animals are reptiles?
• What is your favorite snake?
• How many snakes can you name?
• What do snakes like to eat for dinner?
• What sound does the letter S make?
• Can you name some words that start with S?
• Our Valentine’s Day Party! Passing out Valentines was so much fun!
• Conversation heart counting and sorting - What color did you have the most of? How many were in your bag?
• How many conversation hearts were in our estimation jar? (320 hearts!)
• We started a new special class on Friday - Ballet and Tap Class! [Talk to Ms. Sarah for more details parents]
• On Wednesday we have yoga with Miss Lori and she sings great songs with us while we do our poses! Our favorites are “Let’s Go Swimming” and “These are my Glasses, This is my Book”! Ask me to sing some for you!
• We started doing a daily morning message! It is a letter from me to the class about our day.

Notes for Parents:

Conferences - If you were unable to have a conference during the scheduled weeks and would still like to meet with me, let me know! Also if you ever have any questions or concerns I am always available to meet with you. Ask me about meeting times!

Hand washing - We are working very hard to eliminate germs and illness in our classroom by frequently washing our hands. Best practice suggests that children wash their hands before entering the classroom. If you can take your child to the restroom to help them wash their hand before coming to the preschool room we can eliminate even more germs and cut down on illness for all of us! Thanks for your help with this!

Last week I completed a class through Action for Children on Content Standards for Early Childhood. This was a great refresher class on creating lesson plans to meet the learning standards for the preschool age group.
