HERE’S A NOTE ON WHAT WE LEARNED AND TALKED ABOUT LAST WEEK FROM LITTLE DREAMERS BIG BELIEVERS PRE-SCHOOL TEACHERS, MISS JESSICA AND MISS HEATHER.

young Umbrella Plants (Schefflera arboricola) started from seed

Theme: Plants and Seeds

Letter of the Week: Z is for Zucchini

Things to ask your child about:

We learned about the life cycle of a plant:

  • First a seed is planted and started to grow into a plant. Then the plant grows a flower and the flower is pollinated. After pollination a fruit may form and another seed is created. Then you can grow another plant!
  • Plants need 3 important things to grow - soil, water and sunlight. They also need lots of love!
  • We planted our own garden of bean seeds in our classroom. We added soil to our cups, made a hole for the seed, covered it with more soil and gave it lots of water to start growing. We can’t wait to see when they start to sprout!
  • The seeds we planted on the first day of spring are already sprouting and we graphed the number of sprouts in each pot. So far, basil has the most sprouts and the sunflower has the least.
  • We examined a daisy and learned the parts of a flower. The petals are colorful and attract bees and usually feel soft. The stem drinks up water from the ground and lifts the flower toward the sun. The leaves make food for the whole plant.
  • Plants grow all over the world and you can find different plants in different places. Not many plants grow in Antarctica because it is too cold. Lots of plants grow really big in the jungle because it is really warm and there is a lot of rain to help them grow.
  • We have added lots of plants to our science center. Our favorites are a flowering cactus and a real venus fly trap! We got to watch the venus fly trap close and we pretended to be a venus fly trap with our hands.

On Thursday we earned our root beer float party! We have been doing a great job of taking care of our toys by cleaning them up when we are done. Fantastic work Preschoolers!!
