Dear Moms and Dads,

We had a fantastic first week at preschool! We have already started learning so much! Our theme was “Welcome to Preschool!” and we discovered that preschool is a fun place to learn and that our room is made of learning centers, each with a specific purpose. We created a routine for our room to run smoothly and practiced how to rotate from center to center. It was hard at first, but we are really starting to get the hang of it!

Our letter of the week was A for apple, alligator! We practiced saying, “A is for alligator, A, A, A” to learn the sound A makes. We sang The Ants go Marching and learning lots of finger poems bout apples too. We tasted red and green apples and voted on which one we liked more. More friends voted for the green apples! We cut apples in half and made apple prints with paints. Did you know if you put a magic spell on an apple and then cut it half you will see a star? A is also for Addy and she was our Letter Friend of the Week. We interviewed her and then spelled her name with a great big cheer! Read the rest of this entry »

We are so excited to begin the school year and we have many new ideas that are going to be implemented throughout the school year.

Here are just a few of the things coming up:

Multi-level Letter Focused Reading Curriculum

The start of the preschool session means a return to a more structured schedule and center-based curriculum. Recognizing letters and understanding each letter represents a sound is the biggest challenge young preschoolers face on the path to becoming great readers. We will be using big books, lots of rhymes and a word wall to help each child in our class master each of those challenges.

Preschool Blog and Tips for Parents

We will be posting our schedule, comments and pictures of your children’s activities so you can see all the fun learning we do! We will also post tips for parents on how to extend learning with your child at home and interesting articles that will benefit you and your child.

We have a great class of preschoolers and we look forward to the best preschool year yet! If you have any questions or concerns please let us know. We are so happy to have your child in our class.
